    DECISION

To agree to expand the Flying Start Grant Programme within the Children and Communities Grant, extending the full plan to a new area, namely the Pwllheli area, due to the reduction of eligible children in the current programme.

    DISCUSSION

It was highlighted this was a report with good news, with the intention of expanding the programme to the Pwllheli area.

The content of the programme was explained, and it was mentioned that the programme had already been successfully implemented in seven communities in Gwynedd. This was expanded upon noting that capacity and grant funding were available to extend the program because of a reduction in the number of eligible children in the existing areas.

It was confirmed that this would allow approximately 91 additional children to access this Scheme.

Although the Programme had already expanded to include more areas, it was recognised that there was a reduction in the number of births in those areas and therefore the Programme was not meeting the target set by the Welsh Government. The significant investment per child, and the need to increase the number of children receiving support from the Programme were discussed. It was confirmed that an analysis of the data had identified there was currently a need for the provision in the area in question.

    Observations arising from the discussion:

ยท       The intention to expand the Programme was welcomed.
